My journey in the exercise field began in 1992 when I met my first
teacher Jacqueline Hewko. I was 17 years old and recognized instantly that the
work she was doing was unique and meaningful. It was called BLISSwork and it
was powerful. It was a deep tissue, sustained posturing, high repetition exercise
program, aimed at breaking up connective tissue that kept our bodies from optimum
synchronization. I continued to train under her as a student for one year. I
then asked to train under her to become certified in the method. It was an additional
year of training. Jacqueline is no longer living, but my memory of her and the
work she shared is strong and still resonates through me. My continuing education
was done through the founder of BLISSwork, Juawayne Kettler of Encinitas, California,
whom I am in continual contact with. I was eventually given the honor of training
others to become BLISSwork instructors, an extraordinary bestowing.
Several years later in 2002, I was introduced to Dr. Ilene Rubinstein D.C. who owned a Pilates studio in Ashland, Oregon. I studied under her learning the method as she understood it, a unique experience in that I got to work with a clinician who understood the body and its mechanics like no other chiropractor I had previously encountered. In January of 2008 Dr. Rubinstein and I formed an educational partnership. I now have the pleasure of co-instructing the Pilates Comprehensive Training Program (500-700 hour training program) with Dr. Ilene Rubinstein. It is a comprehensive program designed to prepare interested students to become instructors of the Pilates method and qualifies them to take the Pilates Method Alliance National Exam.
Through the years I have taught at community organizations, given presentations, worked at a health club and in the office of a Doctor of Chiropractic focusing on rehabilitation. I have had the pleasure of working with many Chiropractors and physical therapists to further my knowledge in functional anatomy, kinesiology, and exercise science as it relates to exercise and activities of daily living.
In March of 2003 I and my business partner, Judy Leavitt, opened Pilates BLISSwork Exercise Studio, later renamed REGENERATION. It continues to grow, as do we in many ways. Here at Regeneration you will find instructors who continually study, ask questions, and even challenge current exercise practices. These instructors are eager to learn more that their current level of understanding to pass on to our clients for their continued success. I am honored to have the opportunity to train, coach and support such an outstanding and eager group of instructors here at REGENERATION. It is my job to challenge them to see deeper into the body and present an appropriate exercise program for our trusting clientele. Neither of theses things comes easily. It takes patience, communication, perseverance and a willingness to learn, all qualities that our instructors possess.
Thank you for your interest in us. I urge you to please contact me with any question you may have concerning me, the instructors or the center.
Happy Exercising!
